Whatever is not in sync with our soul will never remain concealed for long. Whatever feelings or pain we try to avoid or push down will consequently rise to the surface to be dealt with, often returning cyclically until we decisively advance the effort necessary to free ourselves from the burden completely. This is commonly known as shadow-work. Each of us must brave this process if we wish to retrieve our inner-calm and peace; our vitality and stability; our health and well-being.
Think of it as shining a big, bright light on things long ago buried. Whenever we spotlight anything, we start to see and understand it more clearly. In this case, we begin to understand ourselves and our difficult pasts and learn to appreciate the gifts those experiences bestowed.
If we look closely at all that is presently happening in our world, we will notice these same shadowy burdens arising at a collective level as well. What has been clandestine for a very long time is now being shown the limelight.
As Carl Jung once said, “One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious." I can't emphasize enough the importance of dealing with our shit - illuminating our darkness. It is the difference between real freedom and viewing ourselves as victims.
Remember, wholeness requires embracing all aspects of ourselves, not just the parts we like. There are always valuable opportunities hidden within the shadows, perhaps the greatest is the courageous journey back to our power.
