Don't Lose Your Marbles!

Don't Lose Your Marbles!

February 9, 2016

Have you ever noticed how, if we're not consciously centered, our mind will seize the opportunity to lose its marbles and focus on everything we actually dislike or don't want to have happen? It's like it zeros right in on the very things we don't prefer, then obsesses about them for hours on end!

Since we are emotional creatures, the more intense our feelings are (either high or low), the more ALIVE we feel. When nothing particularly remarkable is happening in our lives, our brain tends to go about generating excitement by spotlighting the things most readily available, which usually ends up being the very things we dislike, disapprove of or fear. If we continue to allow our thoughts to goad our emotions this way, it can turn us into pessimistic, cynical complainers viewing life from a state of fear and replaying the role of victim rather than living our best life.

Whenever we find ourselves spiraling the drain this way, it usually means we are unfulfilled, dispassionate or perhaps even a little bored with our lives. The solution? Start living! REALLY living!

I have found that taking time each morning to sit in silence, really does wonders in shifting my perception to one of enthusiasm and gratitude. Connecting with our consciousness also reveals our true aspirations. If we follow where that leads and start doing things we're actually passionate about, or at the very least, curious about it changes our whole mindset. Perhaps it's time to begin those projects on our wish list that we never seem to get around to doing - volunteer, write, plant a garden, travel, sign up for that dance or painting class and start creating something that grants expression and feeds the soul.

Remember it's essential to keep our marbles aimed at the precise targets we wish to hit then... SHOOT! Because our mind hates being idle and gets super bored when we're not enthused about our lives, which sends it off in search of a fix and whatever that fix is will surely impact the quality of our days.
