Whenever it is suggested that we "take the emotion out of it" when it comes to business, reveals a lack of understanding of what emotion actually is. Emotion is 'energy-in-motion,' the essence of what we are. So by taking the emotion out of anything would mean removing the core of who we are out of what we do.
To be highly successful in anything we do requires us to be genuine in our pursuit, otherwise our efforts will come across as inauthentic hype. To truly 'love on people' means our emotions are a huge part of the equation, because we lead with our energy. We ARE this energy. People KNOW when we are not coming from a space of genuine regard for their welfare; they can sense when there is an agenda to our approach; when it is really about us and not about them. We can't fake it. Our emotion (the cause) ALWAYS plays a role in the outcome (the effect).
What is however, essential to our business success is 'detachment' to that outcome; letting go of the end result. Detachment does not mean we don't care, in fact it means the complete opposite. It means we KNOW that when we give from our hearts we also reap the rewards. It's just how life works. With this awareness we are then able to let go and simply be of service to others.
So no, it is not about taking the emotion out of business, it's about aligning our energy with success, shifting our focus from what we can get to what we can give, filling our hearts with genuine gratitude and releasing our expectation to the end result. When we can do this, the sting of those not interested in what we are offering will no longer be an issue. We can then honor and accept the choices of those we speak to without taking it personally; without internalizing it as rejection or failure, and joyfully move on to share our gifts with those that vibe with our vision.
