Bone Broth: Nature's Healing Elixir

Bone Broth: Nature's Healing Elixir

August 13, 2016

Today, I'm making homemade bone broth for the very first time. It's been simmering since last night, filling my home with a delicious aroma. Did you know that bone broth benefits literally every part of the body, from the gut and brain, to muscles and ligaments? It's also relatively low in calories, just 20-50 per cup. Yet it's nutrient-dense, providing minerals and other essential compounds that many of us are lacking. Just one or two 8oz mugs per day can do wonders for our health!

The Benefits of Drinking Bone Broth

  • Has anti-inflammatory properties
  • Strengthens connective tissues that cushion joints
  • Help hydrate skin and reduce cellulite
  • Improves brain function
  • Boosts the immune system
  • Supports bone density and flexibility
  • Fuels energy
  • Increases metabolism
  • Improves sleep quality and promotes calmness
  • Stimulates detoxification
  • Easy to digest and helps cells in the gut lining regenerate
  • A great source of protein
  • Gives the body what it needs to repair, restore and thrive

Now that we know what bone broth can do for our body, the good news is that making it at home couldn't be simpler. We don't need fancy equipment or culinary skills, just a few basic ingredients and a little patience. The slow simmering process is the key, drawing collagen, minerals and amino acids out of the bones and into a rich, nourishing broth.

🍲 How To Make Bone Broth

  1. Place organic grass-fed beef or chicken bones into a large stock or crock pot.
  2. Fill pot with clean, non-chlorinated water, leaving plenty of room for it to boil.
  3. Add 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar.
  4. Heat slowly; bring to a boil, then reduce heat to simmer.
  5. Simmer chicken bones for 24 hours, beef bones for 48. A low, slow cook time is needed to fully extract nutrients from bones.
  6. Optional: Toss in vegetables, like onions, garlic, carrots or celery for added flavor and nutritional value.
  7. Optional: Add a pinch of rosemary, salt and/or turmeric.
  8. Pour through a strainer and into glass mason jars.
  9. It can be canned and placed in the pantry, or stored in the fridge for up to a week.

The beauty of making bone broth at home is that it practically makes itself. Toss quality bones in a pot, add water and a splash of vinegar and let it simmer low and slow. What we get is something no store shelf can match - a broth that's richer, more nutrient-dense and made with ingredients we can actually trust. There's a reason it's called nature's healing elixer. It does what no single supplement can - nourishes our bones, heals our gut, supports our brain and fuels our cells, all in one simple cup. Taking care of our health doesn't have to be complicated, sometimes it just has to be homemade!

Enjoy! ☕
