The Filter Of Our Wounds

The Filter Of Our Wounds

Heal so you can hear what's being said without the filter of your wounds. ~Thelma Bryant

This quote emphasizes the significance of emotional healing. Unresolved wounds from our past can distort our perception and cause misconceptions in our interactions with others. They can provoke triggers that are often accompanied by intense emotions, like anger, sadness or anxiety. We may jump to conclusions, react defensively or misinterpret what is actually being said, which can hinder genuine communication and connection.

Just like all those nasty scrapes to our knees we got as kids, although it stung like heck, we knew we needed to cleanse the wound to avoid infection and to heal properly. We can think of emotional wounds much the same way. If we don't purposely and carefully cleanse them out, they can infect our reasoning, views, visions and discernment. These type of distortions can cause vulnerabilities, create blind spots and wreck havoc in our lives.

Though, like most things in life, we always have a choice. We can continue to lug around the pain of our past and play the avoidance game via addiction and dysfunction, or we can process it. Cleansing our wounds is our responsibility and requires us to get real honest with ourselves. It calls for self-reflection and a trek to the core of our suffering. It involves facing our greatest fears and uncovering their origins. It means re-feeling the pain fully and irrevocably letting it go.

The healing process fosters a sense of calm confidence, clarity and the ability to stand firmly in our convictions. It inspires us to respond to others in a grounded, conscious way, rather than overreacting. Without the influence of past wounds, we're better able to form healthy, deep and fulfilling relationships. Healing our pain clears the lens we view life through. It transforms our well-being and the way we perceive and interact with the world around us. It is the mighty journey back to our personal power.

How do we know we're healed?
Our soul will be at peace. 💕
